Blue Playhouse

Programming

We are a private educational based daycare, now offering free services to 27 families through our NYCDOE 3K and PreK program. We believe in observing and learning from the child, and in the importance of understanding each child and his or her unique strengths. We are committed to the development of the whole child, and the importance of play and exploration in that development. Our programming is inspired by merging Reggio Emilia philosophy, Montessori philosophy, and weaving in traditional approaches to learning for our older children.

For the 2023-2024 school year, we will  offer 3K for 3 year olds, PreK for 4 years olds and a small private program for 5 children ages 2-3 years old.  We also offer private after school services until 5:45pm daily.

Our program is designed to strengthen fine and gross motor ability through movement and the investigation of new objects, and to allow for children to explore and discover through play.  Children are presented with opportunities for new experiences each day, and are encouraged to engage with new works on our Practical Life and Sensorial shelves.  Our curricular components include Montessori Lessons, Wilson's Fundations, Eureka Math and the NYC DOE Explorations curriculum.

Children begin their day with a morning meeting and a brief lesson centered around "something amazing about the world". Children then move about the remainder of their day choosing activities and exploring the learning environment, guided by their teachers.

Summer at the Blue Playhouse (07/17/2023-08/29/2023)

Our Summer Program will run for 6.5 weeks between July 17th and August 29th. Summer program hours are 8:30am-2:30pm. We have 20 seats available for Summer 2023.

Here are some activities we have planned! Click here to read more, or to apply.

Early Dismissal - Prospect Park Day: Children will have a “park day” every other Friday. Dismissal is at 11:30am for all children not attending park day. One adult chaperone is required per child. Yellow school bus service will be provided from the school to Prospect Park. Pizza will be provided for everyone. Families may bring additional snacks. Children are dismissed from Prospect Park and can be signed out at any time through 2:30pm. The day ends at 2:30pm.

Backyard Water Play Days - Every other Thursday, children will have a water play party in the backyard with music, refreshing fruits and vegetables as snack, bubble machines and water toys. Water Play will take place right before lunch and nap.

Daily Physical Activity - Our summer program will consist of only one class of up to 12 children. We are transforming one classroom as a gross motor play/gym for summer programming. Each day, children will spend at least 30 minutes of indoor gross motor play in our “Summer Gym”, and at least 90 minutes of outdoor play in our backyard.

Indoor/Outdoor Garden - This summer children will explore growing and caring for indoor and outdoor plants! As a class, children will plant seeds and observe their daily growth as well as participate in caring for at least one indoor plant and one outdoor plant.
